High Functioning Autism
High functioning autism is one of the types of autism spectrum disorders. People with this condition are the ones that can still able to function effectively in the society. Read on to know some of the symptoms of high function autism.
Common High Function Autism Symptoms
Each person with autism, no matter the type or kind will show various combinations of symptoms than other individual. These symptoms also differ in each degree. As a matter of fact, even those individual with the common diagnosis, they may also have different symptoms. On the other hand, autism spectrum disorder like high functioning autism are all classified in the same category because of the autism symptoms that are common with one another.
In addition, high-functioning autism and Asperger’s syndrome are known to be the mildest and have the common signs and symptoms. However, high function autism isn’t yet considered as an official diagnosis but only a descriptive term that can be used primarily to establish the diagnosis and treatment of autism. Commonly, persons with this type of autism can able to function normally in most situations but the typical diagnosis is simply autism. In most cases, for individual’s high function autism can already diagnosed during their early years and may commonly reclassified as the Asperger syndrome as the symptoms becomes milder.
Communication
Communication is the main concern for most autism spectrum disorders symptoms. Even though these factors tend to be less seen in high functional autism. Language and speech delays are usually there especially the initial years of childhood. Some person with HFA has fully developed vocabularies but they may have monotone, high pitched and awkward style.
Behavioral Issues
Just like other types of autism, HFA usually includes burly compulsion to hold on to strict habits. In addition, changes in habitual daily routines may lead to anxiety usually expressed via verbalizations and behaviors or violent outburst in some cases. Activities that are enjoyable seem to be stressful for them, even as a simple trip to a grocery can cause them trauma especially if they are in unfamiliar places.
